Why Is It in News?

India hosted the 7th AgriVoltaics World Conference from 21 to 23 October 2026 under the theme “Powering the Global South.”

About

Agrivoltaics is an approach that combines agriculture and solar photovoltaic (PV) power generation on the same land. Depending on the design, solar panels can generate electricity while allowing crops to grow underneath or between them.

The approach can support the dual use of land, improve renewable energy access in rural areas and create additional income opportunities for farmers.

The 2026 conference brought together policymakers, researchers, industry representatives, innovators and international experts to discuss agrivoltaic technologies, policy frameworks, financing models and climate-resilient agriculture.
